My bench rate is $40 / hour, plus the actual cost of any parts. There is a minimum charge of $40, applied to the first hour of bench work. I guarantee my workmanship for 90 days. Tubes, if required, are usually warranted by the supplier.
As part of the initial assay, I typically do a fairly comprehensive check-up of the amp, plus look for any obvious problems, like burnt resistors or failed capacitors. I test all tubes on my TV-7D/U. I check circuit voltages, critical resistor/capacitor values and measure the bias. I research your amp and obtain a factory schematic, if I don’t already have one. This gives me the baseline of the health of the amp, and from there I can start troubleshooting.
Depending on complexity of the issue and any backlog, I can repair and return your amp in as little as three days. If parts/tubes are required and I don’t have them in stock, it may take a week or more to complete the repair. If it is an emergency and you need the amp right away (as when it is Thursday and you need the amp for a gig on Saturday), I will do everything I can to get it done for you in time. Please tell me if the repair is an emergency situation. (There is no extra charge, but please don’t abuse the service).
I am a guitar player, so I test your amp after the repair is complete, to make sure that it is operating as expected.
I will provide you with a detailed report of findings and the repairs completed. I also report on the overall health of your amp, and anything that needs attention.
Please e-mail or call me to arrange a time to drop off your amps, or if you just want to talk about a plan to get them up and playing again.
Thank you for your interest, and
Best Regards,
Don
