What is the lead time on a custom amplifier build?
A custom-built amplifier will take anywhere from 6 – 12 weeks to build, depending on complexity and my schedule.
an you restore my vintage amplifier back to the way it was when manufactured?
Generally, yes. It is what I excel at. Keep in mind that parts are not always readily available, and many 50-year-old components (capacitors, resistors) no longer function as they were intended. So, while these replacement parts will look vintage, they are in fact new components.
Do you make your own cabinets?
I do not make cabinets. I have several sources of excellent cabinets that I use on a regular basis.
Can you build my pedal / amp for me? I have all the parts.
Yes. Normal bench rates apply. I can’t be held responsible for poor design or warranty the device in any way, aside from quality of workmanship.
Can you give me technical advice on this amp/pedal/guitar I am repairing / building?
I usually offer advice on forums like TheGearPage.net and others (I usually post here). If you e-mail or call me, I always try to offer what advice I can, within limits. The limits are my time, how busy I am, etc.
I have an amplifier problem that the other tech couldn’t fix. Can you fix it?
I love a challenge. There are few (if any) repair projects that I have given up on. Most repairs that land on my bench have in fact been worked on before without success, usually by the owner.
Can you update me on the status of my repair?
I always provide documentation on the repair or project. This includes written documentation and photographs. I keep in contact with you to let you know the status of the project, the timeline, unexpected issues, and any additional work or parts required.
Do you accept trades?
Probably not. Only if you have something I want or need, and it represents an excellent value.
I want to modify my amp / guitar to get a specific tone. Can you do that?
“Tone” is entirely subjective. Our ears are different. The only way I can do this type of work if you are present to audition changes as I make them, and tell me when we have reached your goal.
Can you build me a clone of a (Brand Name) amplifier / Guitar?
No. The brand owners have invested their entire reputation, not to mention millions of dollars, on their trademarked products. I respect this completely, as should you. I can build you a replica of an amp or guitar which will be as good or better than the original, but it will not include any trademarked features.
In the case of a restoration, I can source replacement logos and other parts so that your vintage amp looks the part. I also do an excellent job of age-matching parts.
