I received an email from Magnetic Components stating that Classic Tone Transformers are going out of business as of the first of November, 2020:
Well, this just completes the wonderfulness of the year 2020. I have used Classic Tone transformers exclusively for the past 10 years. I have found their transformers to be accurate reproductions of the paper-wound transformers of the 1950s – 1970s.
I am not sure how long their website will remain up (http://www.classictone.net/), but for the time being at least they are selling the transformers that they have in stock through Triode (http://store.triodestore.com/classictone.html), and maybe other resellers.
I have already heard of people who are buying up large numbers of Classic Tone transformers to re-sell.
The real issue for me, and I’m sure a lot of other builders, is where to source alternative high-quality transformers. The usual suspects are on my list: Heyboer, Hammond, EDCOR, etc. Marvel Electric Co. is the sister company to Magnetic Components and Classic Tone, but their website is down, so I do not know if they are still operating.
